Hey all!
A lot has happened since my last post. Unfortunately it's taken Hurricane Ike to stir me and move me to write.
First of all, I am a night person, so for me to be awake since 8:00am this morning is a miracle. I've been glued to the television, channel surfing, and cleaning. Yes, I said cleaning. For some reason I get the urge to do the laundry right before a hurricane. :) Weird, I know.
According to our trusted meteorologists, Ike is Hurricane Alicia's twin brother. Hurricane Alicia hit Houston in August 1983. It caused MAJOR damage to the Gulf Coast.
After washing and folding laundry, I was still antsy. I called Target to see if they were open. Y-E-S!!! I had forty-five minutes to get there. It was only two exits from my home. But, after finding out they didn't have the batteries I needed a rational mind sort of prevailed and I decided not to "go and see" what they did have.
Cabin fever set in and I jumped in my car to "ride around and see" what's going on. I found a Walgreen's that was open, sort of.... The manager was standing at the door, keys in hand, asking people what they wanted. Depending on what you said, she'd let you in.
I hate rejection so I rattled off everything I could think of. It went something like this:
Mgr.: What do you need?
Me: Batteries.
Mgr.: No, we don't have any.
Me: Flashlight?
Mgr.: No!
Me: Candles?!
Mgr.: Come on in!
Y-E-S! I won that battle. LOL Anyway, I didn't find any candles, except the kind you use outside as insect repellant. I moved on to the dairy isle, bought some milk. (Not sure how long we'll have electricity so we'll have to drink fast!) I bought some Rice Krispies cereal, my son probably doesn't even know what they are. It was Rice Krispies or Shreded Wheat, so I took a chance. Guess what else I found? BATTERIES. Yes, batteries galore! Not exactly the size I needed the most, but I bought some anyway. My most prized purchase was a $10.00 speaker used for iPods and laptops. Just what I need to be able to hear my episodes of The Office and 30 Rock on my laptop. (At least until the electricity fails and my laptop batteries are gone.) I REALLY prepared ahead. I charged all three of my laptops.
Well the laundry is done, I have cereal, coffee, bread, water, three jars of grape jam, my BIBLE and my faith, so I am set for the storm.
So, IKE, bring it on!
